Sports arena dream for site

A former quarry could become an extreme sports arena.

Coxley Developments hope to turn Chelms Coombe Quarry in Cheddar into a big draw for adrenaline seekers, with interest already shown from outdoor activity agents.

Paul Knight, managing director of PJK Chartered Surveyors, said: "We have had expressions of interest from operators of various activities including rock climbing, abseiling, caving, bungee jumping, archery, paintballing, tower climbing, zip wire and assault courses.

"This is a stunning location, set in an elevated position, in mature woodland, but with breathtaking views across the village of Cheddar towards Axbridge Reservoir and beyond."

The developers hope the 27-acre secluded site, which has various sized offices and industrial units, will also attract businesses.

But they warned any outdoor pursuits or extreme sports uses would be subject to planning permission.

Jonathan James, development director of Coxley Developments said: "We are working on a master plan for this site and hope to create a leisure based destination which will play upon the undoubted strengths of the Mendip hills area with a leisure/extreme sports emphasis."

"We are currently renovating some of the existing buildings which will be available for occupation early in the new year while others will be adapted to suit specific occupiers' needs."
