Podcast comedian stars in comedy club line-up

Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 17:59

Ray Peacock is one of the most popular headline acts on the comedy circuit and is coming to Travestees Comedy Club, in Glastonbury, on Wednesday.

Last year Ray began presenting his Chortle-hosted podcast alongside Ed Gamble and Raji James.

It was immediately recognised by The Times who proclaimed it as their "Podcast of the Week" the day after the first episode was launched.

The trio went on to record three series, with the last culminating in five live recordings at The Arts Theatre in London.

The trio enjoyed their own BBC radio series, three consecutive Edinburgh Festival shows and their own series for the BBC's PlayUK.

As an actor Ray's TV credits include Doctor Who, Harry Hill's TV Burp, Doctors, The 11 O'clock Show and Skin Deep.

More recently Ray has completed filming for the new ITV sitcom, No Heroics and for the forthcoming series of Skins.

Star of BBC 3's Ideal alongside Johnny Vegas and Perrier Best Newcomer nominee 2004, Joanna Leary has caught the eye of the comedy makers.

Joanna has been a regular guest on Radio 2's Out To Lunch, BBC 7's Colin And Fergus' Digi Radio and featured in Fabulous on BBC Radio 4.

Further TV appearances include Skins, No Heroics, Time Trumpet, Comedy Shuffle, Comedy Cuts, Paramount Comedy Shorts, That Mitchell And Webb Look, Green Wing and Katy Brand's Big Ass Show.

She returned to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008 with her all-new show Joanna Neary's Magic Hole.

Rising star Ed Gamble has come a long way since the final of the Revels Student Comedy Awards in Edinburgh last year.

Dubbed by many in the live comedy industry as "the one to watch", Ed was also a finalist in The Laughing Horse Big, Big, Big New Act Competition (2007).

Along with Ray Peacock and Raji James he has been responsible for the most talked about podcast of the year.

BBC6 Music's John Robins represents the new wave of storyteller, skilfully weaving narrative, improvisation and punchy gags into his unique, self-effacing style.

As a compere he has quickly made his name as one of the most quick-witted, engaging MCs on the circuit. Always willing to expect the unexpected, John guarantees a great show for audiences and acts alike.

Travestees Comedy Club, which is held at Tor Leisure Centre, in Glastonbury, is on Wednesday with doors opening at 7.30pm and the first act on stage at 8.30pm.

Entry is £8 and tickets can be reserved by emailling info@travestees.com or phoning 07825 951715.

Due to the unpredictability of some comics organisers recommend the show should be for those aged 16 and over.
